Admissions
Important note: Admissions are handled through the Institute’s unified committee process. Master’s or Ph.D. positions cannot be confirmed by email before formal application. Please first complete the institute-level application process and obtain the relevant admission eligibility; group matching will then depend on research interests, prior communication, and topic fit. To improve communication efficiency, please include [BDAL-READ-current year] in the subject, replacing “current year” with the four-digit year when you send the email; emails that do not follow this requirement or appear generic/template-based will generally not receive a reply.
1. What You Can Build Here
Student-Led Research at a High Level
Students work from real problems to formulation, method design, and paper writing; most group papers are led by students as first authors or core contributors.
Publications and Industry Connections
The group has published in NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, JMLR, and Biometrika, with long-term Huawei collaborations and strong referrals for internships and full-time positions.
Research Support and Group Life
Ph.D. students can receive close to RMB 100,000 per year through stipends, scholarships, and research assistantships, alongside a supportive team atmosphere.
Clear Career Outcomes
All graduated Ph.D. students have received million-RMB-level offers; most master's students have moved on to strong Ph.D. programs or leading technology companies.
2. What We Value
Basic Expectations
- Research interests aligned with the group's directions.
- Willingness to commit to long-term research training.
- Active communication and steady progress on staged tasks.
Less Suitable Situations
- Contacting the group without first learning about our research directions.
- Seeking only short-term nominal participation without sustained commitment.
- Being unable to engage deeply with the group before enrollment.
BDAL-RUC hopes to build a group where people can do serious research while also feeling relaxed, supported, and connected. We especially welcome students who are positive, open, communicative, and enjoy growing with peers. Kindness, responsibility, and a willingness to grow with the team are qualities we especially value.
3. Matching Process
Matching period: Students who intend to formally join the group are generally expected to complete at least 3 months of in-depth research communication and topic exploration before enrollment. Master’s students usually need to determine an advisor soon after enrollment; without deep pre-enrollment engagement through group meetings, project discussions, or short-term research participation, formal joining will generally not be considered. The group will evaluate research fit, communication, staged commitment, and work completion.
